Brazil: Italian Arrested for Kissing His Daughter

An Italian tourist married to a Brazilian woman ran afoul of a new law to prevent child sex abuse when witnesses reported him to police for kissing his eight-year-old daughter on a public beach in Fortaleza. The family was vacationing in Brazil and due to return to Italy but the father was detained pending further investigation. The man’s wife said the case was a misunderstanding, and resort staff said they had seen nothing unusual. But Fortaleza has had a serious problem with sex tourism and the new law is an effort to crack down on it. From the looks of this incident, enforcement will be taken seriously.
