Switzerland: Zurich University Hospital Stops Offering North Americans Elective Procedures
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Medical tourism is a growing trend worldwide and has been part of Swiss culture at least since the 19th century, but Zurich University Hospital and hospitals throughout the canton Valais have stopped treating Americans and Canadians because of the possibility of malpractice lawsuits. A hospital spokeswoman said the ban applied only to patients who came for elective procedures and only those who do not live in Switzerland. Hospitals in other cities such as Basel continue to offer treatments to North Americans.
