Suriname: Tourist Killed Trying to Thwart Robber

A Dutch tourist was killed during a robbery in Paramaribo Dec. 25 when he tried to take back his wife’s purse that had been snatched by an armed man as they walked toward their apartment. In the scuffle the robber shot the tourist and killed him on the spot. The incident serves as a reminder that it is usually better not to resist such robberies despite the instinct to fight back, because if the assailant is armed you may lose your life.
