Trindad and Tobago: “Bump and Rob” Crimes Could Increase During Holidays
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |As in Denmark, the U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain warned visitors and local residents that the crime rate here increases in the weeks leading up to the Christmas holidays and urged U.S. citizens to be on their guard. Recently a U.S. citizen was killed in what may have been a so-called “Bump and Rob” incident. In such crimes a perpetrator causes an auto accident so he can commit a robbery after the victim gets out of the car to assess the damage. The Embassy warned that the holidays are a high-risk period for this kind of crime, and urged anyone involved in an accident to stop only in places they consider safe.
