Egypt: Self-Immolations Mimic Incident in Tunisia

Two people have set themselves afire, and others have tried, in statements of despair over their lack of economic and political freedom, mimicking the act that ignited the groundswell of unrest in Tunisia that drove the president from power. Whether these incidents in Egypt will prompt an uprising here remains to be seen, but the same sort of hopelessness exists with the same sort of autocratic government. Tourists should keep a close eye on developments and be aware of options for departure in an emergency.
