Mexico: Shooting in Resort City Bar

By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink | No Comments | March 23rd, 2011 | Trackback

A group of masked gunmen opened fire in a bar in the resort city of Acapulco March 19 killing 10 men. The attack continued the trend of violence in the region—six men and a woman were found dead the day before. Authorities blame the rising violence on fighting between remnants of the Beltran Leyva drug cartel. This upward trend coincides with one of Mexico’s largest tourist seasons: Spring Break. Travelers to resort cities such as Acapulco should be aware of the ongoing drug violence in the country and are advised to stay away from border towns where violence has been extreme.
