New Zealand: Tourism Still Disrupted in Christchurch

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | March 9th, 2011 | Trackback

As of March 8, the National Crisis Management Centre stopped advising against nonessential travel to Christchurch city. While this is a positive step in the rebuilding effort, it should be noted that many tourism operators in the city remain severely disrupted as a result of the devastating earthquake. Most services, however, in other parts of New Zealand are operating at full capacity. In the greater Canterbury area the following areas are operating normally: Akaroa, Kaikoura, Mackenzie Country and Hanmer Springs. Travelers should stay up to date with the rebuilding efforts in Christchurch before planning a trip there.
