Mexico: Border Crossings Possible Targets of Violence
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |The U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez warned Americans traveling to or from Chihuahua that U.S. border crossings and even the consulate could become the target of drug cartel attacks. Ciudad Juarez is a large industrial city across from El Paso, Texas and is plagued with drug violence. More than 9,300 people have been gunned down, mutilated or beheaded there since early 2008. Though Mexico has historically been, and continues to be, a popular travel destination for Americans, U.S. citizens must remain vigilant because of these ongoing security issues. Even so, millions of Americans every year travel safely to Mexico, including more than 150,00 who cross the border each day.
