Australia: Red Kangaroo Attacks Elderly Woman

By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink | No Comments | August 1st, 2011 | Trackback

A rogue red kangaroo attacked a 94-year-old woman in Charleville, Queensland, knocking her to the ground and kicking her several times as she hung laundry to dry. Though she was injured and may need surgery, the woman was not seriously hurt. The red kangaroo is the world’s largest marsupial, standing over six feet tall and weighing as much as 200 pounds. The woman said she used to feed the kangaroos, but this was the first time one had turned on her. This incident should serve as a reminder to travelers to avoid interactions with wild animals, especially trying to feed or pet them. Charleville is situated on the banks of the Warrego River about 470 miles west of Brisbane and is the administrative center of the Murweh Shire.
