Bahrain: Travel Alert Regarding Potential Unrest
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |The U.S. State Department issued a travel alert Aug. 19 regarding the potential for unrest in Bahrain. Despite the withdrawal of Bahrain Defense Force personnel since the lifting of the State of National Safety, the State Department warned of the potential for spontaneous civil and political unrest. Though the airport in Bahrain remains open, U.S. citizens traveling to the country are facing increased scrutiny from the Bahraini government and are sometimes not permitted entry into the country. The U.S. Embassy is currently restricting employees from traveling to certain areas, and advises all citizens to follow the same restrictions and to avoid all demonstrations.
