Australia: Bodyboarder Dies after Shark Attack
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |A bodyboarder had his legs bitten off by a shark and subsequently died on the shore at a popular surf spot in western Australia Sept. 4. Off the coast of Bunker Bay at a spot known as The Farm, the bodyboarder and five of his friends were out in the water when the shark attacked the victim. According to a beachside employee, some sharks had been spotted far out at sea off the shore some months ago, but that was not a concern, as sharks do not typically venture close enough to shore to be a threat to water-goers. This was the first attack in the area in about 20 years.
