Australia: Aviation Sector to Strike in Case of Bad Deal
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |The country’s aviation sector has been hit hard in recent months by delays and cancellations due to customs protests and rolling industrial action by pilots, engineers and ground staff at Qantas. Delays and cancellations could continue because customs workers were promising to walk off the job should the government not provide a better deal for workers, who have already rejected a three percent annual pay raise. Workers at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth airports vowed to strike again should a better deal not be reached, threatening major delays ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth Oct. 28 and beyond.
