Thailand: Heavy Flooding to Last Four to Six Weeks
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that flooding will last another four to six weeks, warning people in Bangkok to be prepared and describing the situation as “extremely serious.” She said it is highly likely that all of Bangkok will flood. Bangkok’s Don Muang domestic airport has already been shut down until at least Nov. 1, but the international airport continues to operate normally. Thus far more than 100,000 people have been displaced from their homes, and the death toll has climbed past 350. Tourism in the south has remained largely unaffected, as the southern islands have escaped the flooding despite the heavy monsoon season.
