Tunisia: Travel Alert Regarding Possible Unrest
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |The U.S. State Department has issued a travel alert regarding Tunisia because of the potential for unrest. Spontaneous events such as demonstrations still occur, and the nation is still operating under a state of emergency. The State Department advises all citizens currently in Tunisia to stay vigilant regarding personal security, and all travelers planning trips to the interior of the country to assess local conditions and routes, because conditions are subject to sudden changes. Politically motivated demonstrations are expected ahead of the general elections scheduled for Oct. 23. In the past nine months, such demonstrations have turned violent, causing injuries and even death.
