Worldwide: Retaliation Concerns over al-Awlaki Killing
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |After the killing of U.S.-Yemeni citizen Anwar al-Awlaki, the U.S. State Department has issued a worldwide travel alert for American citizens due to fears of retaliation. Al-Awlaki was the external operations leader of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, and his death, though a major blow to the operations of al-Qaida in the area, could possibly motivate anti-American attacks worldwide in the short-term. This travel alert is due to expire on Nov. 30, 2011, though that date is subject to change depending on conditions and sentiment worldwide.
