By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink | No Comments | November 7th, 2011 | Trackback

A diver from Texas was killed by a shark off the coast of Rottnest Island near Perth in Western Australia Oct. 22. The island’s beaches were closed on Oct. 31 after helicopters spotted two 16-foot great white sharks. The Texan was the third person this year to die as the result of a shark attack in Western Australia. State premier Colin Barnett announced extra funding to increase shark patrols, saying that this high frequency of fatal shark attacks was “unprecedented.”
