Mexico: U.S. Citizens Killed in Veracruz

By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink | No Comments | December 28th, 2011 | Trackback

On Dec. 22, three U.S. citizens were killed on a bus while traveling for the holidays. According to a U.S. State Department official, gunmen attacked several buses traveling through the eastern state of Veracruz. The state was once a major oil export hub, but has since turned into a microcosm of Mexico’s larger drug-related woes. As violence intensifies between the Zetas gang and Gulf drug cartels, attacks have become more commonplace. In September, 35 bodies were dumped along a major highway in Boca del Rio, Veracruz, and on Dec. 23 alone, 10 bodies, clearly tortured, were found in the northern portion of the state.
