Thailand: Rally on May 19 to mark Red-Shirt Anniversary
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |On May 19, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will hold a rally to mark the second anniversary of the military action used against red-shirt protestors at Ratchaprasong intersection in Bangkok. The rally will last for approximately 12 hours. Visitors should avoid the demonstration because the red-shirt protests of 2010 turned into a prolonged confrontation between protestors and the military. More than 80 people were killed and thousands more were injured. While the rally this May might not have violent intentions, the chances for political gatherings to devolve into chaos remains high given the history of red-shirt protests.
