United Kingdom: Police Blow Up Tourist’s Car, Then Issue Ticket
By Larry Habegger and Laurie Weed | Permalink |A tourist from Newcastle had just arrived in London when his car broke down near Parliament Square. Deciding to go for a walk and do some sightseeing while he waited for help to arrive, the man left a note on his vehicle to explain the situation and asked police not to ticket him. When he returned to his car some time later, he found it had been blown up by anti-terror police, who maintained that they had no other means to access the abandoned vehicle, which was illegally parked within a short distance of Westminster Abby. Police then towed the remains of the car and issued the owner a ticket. Visitors who drive into and around London should be aware that illegal parking is not taken lightly in the capital.
