Portugal: Armed Robberies on the Rise in Embassy District
By Larry Habegger and Laurie Weed | Permalink |A rash of armed robberies in the U.S. Embassy area of Lisbon, particularly the pedestrian tunnel north of the Avenida das Forças Armadas entrance, has prompted the Embassy to issue a warning to U.S. citizens. Visitors to the Embassy are advised to use caution when walking in this neighborhood, remain alert and avoid traveling alone if possible. The Embassy notes that Portugal continues to have a relatively low rate of violent crime; however, crime in all categories has been rising steadily.
