Brazil: Murder Rate Skyrockets in Sao Paulo Gang Wars

More than 300 murders have been reported in the city just since October—and 140 of those occurred within a two-week period. Much of the violence has been limited to the south-zone barrios where tourists are unlikely to venture. However, visitors to Sao Paulo should remain vigilant of their surroundings and consult with local authorities before leaving the beaten path.
