Rwanda: Armed Attack Prompts New Travel Warning
By Larry Habegger and Laurie Weed | Permalink |After an armed raid on the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund’s anti-poaching camp left one tracker dead, the U.S. Embassy has issued an emergency message to its citizens. Located in Karisoke Kazi, the camp sits directly outside Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Militants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) evidently conducted this attack, and the Embassy has received other reports of armed militant groups making incursions across the border to the Rubavu District. Americans in Rwanda are being advised to avoid all travel to Rubavu District, Volcanoes National Park, the town of Kinigi, and the areas to the north and west of Kinigi that abut Volcanoes National Park.
