Honduras: Tourist Killed for a Camera in San Pedro Sula

By Larry Habegger and Laurie Weed | Permalink | No Comments | January 23rd, 2013 | Trackback

A British tourist was shot and killed for his camera while walking around San Pedro Sula on Jan. 15. The 33-year-old man, who was nearing the end of a month-long trip, was mugged on a residential street and then murdered when he struggled with his armed assailants over the camera and his small bag of valuables. The country’s second-largest city, San Pedro Sula was once known as the base for the U.S. Peace Corps and a crossroads for travelers from all over Central America, but in recent years, it has been taken over by gangs and drug-related violence. It now has the dubious distinction of being named the most dangerous city in the world’s most violent country.
