Vietnam: Arsenic Found in Hanoi’s Drinking Water

By Larry Habegger and Dani Burlison | Permalink | No Comments | September 25th, 2013 | Trackback

Travelers to Vietnam may soon need to take precautions regarding drinking water. Officials say that arsenic-contaminated water is leaching into a major aquifer that serves the Hanoi area. The poisoned water came from contaminated sediment that washed down from the Himalayas centuries ago. Officials say that arsenic in some areas is 10 to 50 times higher than levels considered safe, but the leak is currently at such a low level that the city of Hanoi may still have several years to solve the issue.
