Spain: ETA Threat; Spanair Cabin Crews May Strike

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | June 20th, 2007 | Trackback

A report by Spanish military intelligence leaked to the media revealed concerns that the Basque separatist group ETA may be planning terrorist attacks this summer on tourist areas of the Spanish coast. The report said ETA has five mobile terror cells composed of young recruits and weapons and explosives stolen last fall from an armory in the south of France, enough to make several powerful car bombs. In the past the group has staged bombings in tourist areas hoping to damage Spain’s tourism industry. ETA called off its “permanent cease-fire” June 6. In other news, Spanish air carrier Spanair may be hit with eight days of strikes by cabin crews beginning June 25 and ending August 31. Strike dates are June 25, July 1, 9, 15, and 31, and August 1, 15 and 31.
