Egypt: Sharm el-Sheikh Shark Attacks Shut Down Coastline for Swimmers
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Most of the coastline off the popular Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh is indefinitely off-limits to swimmers because of several shark attacks that occurred over the course of a week. One woman was killed and four other tourists were seriously maimed. Officials caught and killed what they thought were the two sharks that had made the attacks only to see the fatal attack occur within days. Authorities reopened the area to experienced divers except for a two-mile stretch where the attacks occurred, and recommended novice divers go to Dahab, 50 miles north.
