France: Amid Fears of Terrorist Threats Police Meeting Called
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |Interior Minister Claude Gueant held a meeting with police chiefs on Tuesday to discuss the potential security risks that are resulting from the military operation in Libya being spearheaded by the French military. The meeting was not the result of a specific threat, but rather a reaction to Libya’s track record and broader threat against Western interests in and around the Mediterranean. Prime Minister Francois Fillon said that French intelligence had been mobilized to deal with any threats coming from Libya. France has been on red alert, the third highest level in a four-level alert code, since the 2005 London suicide bombings. Those wishing to travel to France should remain aware of the security measures in place and pay attention to developments surrounding the military operation in Libya.
