Philippines: State Department Warns Against Travel
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |The U.S. State Department reissued its travel warming alerting citizens to possible terrorist activities in the Philippines, particularly in the Sulu Archipelago and on the island of Mindanao. Regional terrorist groups have been engaging in attacks and clashes with the Philippine Armed Forces throughout Mindanao, especially in rural areas. Gangs that use kidnap-for-ransom techniques are active throughout the country and have targeted foreigners. Visitors should exercise extreme caution when traveling here, research Philippine government travel restrictions and follow the instructions of security officials.
