Denmark: Fatty Foods Face new Tax
By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink |Those who consider savory dishes a staple of any good trip might find their wallets a little slimmer upon returning from Denmark, where the Danish parliament recently imposed a “fat tax” to help citizens improve their health. The tax targets fatty foods, and will correspond with the percentage of fat in a product, raising the cost of a cheeseburger, for instance, by about 15 cents. Other European countries, including Denmark, already tax sugar and soft drinks, but taxing fatty foods makes Denmark a world leader in the battle against obesity.
