Philippines: Typhoon Haiyan Kills Thousands, Closes Airports

By Larry Habegger and Dani Burlison | Permalink | No Comments | November 15th, 2013 | Trackback

Typhoon Haiyan devastated six central islands Nov. 8, leaving as many as 10,000 people dead. In addition to Leyte, where the coastal town of Tacloban was reported to be 80-90 percent destroyed, the areas hit the hardest were the central provinces of Samar, Bohol, Cebu, Panay and Mindoro. Non-essential travel to the regions affected by the typhoon should be delayed for some time, but the far northern and southern islands reported little to no damage.
