Trouble is increasing in Burundi, where on Dec. 4 rebels warned foreigners to leave the country and fired on a passenger plane landing at the international airport in Bujumbura, the capital. The U.S. Embassy has prohibited its personnel from flying into or out of the capital city of Bujumbura during the hours of darkness because of uncertain security conditions. Fighting between Hutu rebels and government forces has been raging for more than two weeks in Bujumbura, the capital. A curfew is in effect from 8 p.m. to dawn.
