Cambodia: Remote Koh Kong Province Becoming Popular Eco-Tourism Spot

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | March 9th, 2011 | Trackback

Anyone interested in emerging eco-tourism might consider visiting the province of Koh Kong, a densely forested area in southwestern Cambodia that includes part of the Cardamom Mountains and a section of Kirirom National Park. Once extraordinarily isolated and a refuge for the Khmer Rouge, Koh Kong has become part of a project called Community-Based-Eco-Tourism, which aims to preserve the rainforests of Cambodia while offering incentives to the members of the community. Activities include hiking, kayaking and wildlife viewing as Koh Kong is home to more than 60 threatened species.
