Colombia: Foreigners Being Drugged and Robbed in Bogota

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | June 10th, 2009 | Trackback

The U.S. Embassy in Bogota continues to receive reports of drugging and robbing of foreigners in bars and other public places. Criminals offer drinks, cigarettes or gum tainted with Scopolamine or other incapacitating drugs, and rob their victims when the drug takes effect. A dramatic increase in such attacks has occurred in the Galerias district and the Plaza de las Americas district. These areas are now off limits to official U.S. Embassy personnel because of the risks. To avoid becoming a victim, tourists should not leave food or drinks unattended, should not accept food or drinks from strangers, and should not go alone to nightclubs or bars.
