Turkey: Car Bomb Explodes in Ankara

By Larry Habegger and Andrew Davis | Permalink | No Comments | September 21st, 2011 | Trackback

At least three people died and 15 were injured after a car bomb exploded in Ankara Sept. 20. The interior minister said that the blast was more than likely an act of terrorism, partially because the explosion took place in an area known for heavy traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian. While Kurdish rebels fighting for autonomy in southeastern Turkey have recently escalated their attacks, Islamists and leftist rebels have also carried out bombings against Turkey in the recent past. Ankara is the Turkish capital and is known as the country’s wine center due to its grape production.
