Argentina
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Europe isn’t the only place where foot and mouth disease has been making headlines. Argentina had two cases of it last week, and Argentine beef is now banned in Europe, the U.S., Canada and Chile. The news is a blow to the economy, which has been in deep recession for more than two years. Further, protesters are organizing for strikes and demonstrations in early April. The first, Apr. 4-5 to protest government policies and globalization, threatens to close the road in Buenos Aires between the international airport and the city. The second, Apr. 7 to protest a meeting of North and South American trade negotiators, is expected to draw 100,000 demonstrators.
